Q: Hey Justin,

I am a 16 year old highschool student, and I want to get into the tournament aspect of fishing. I see that you are a young fisherman as well, and want to know if you have any advice for me. I want to do the co-angler thing too, but where do I start? Any Ideas?

Jake

A: Hey Jake,

When i started tournament fishing i was sitting in the same boat you were. I had no idea where i needed to start. So i just started researching different tournamnet trails and checked out what was close to home. I also talked to a pro from South Carolina that gave me a lot of helpful info. as well. He told me about the BFL. Now the BFL is a great way to start out, especially if you're just jumping in to tournament fishing. The way the BFL works is on a draw system. First you have to pay for the tournament over the internet on FLWOutdoors.com. The night before the tournamnet there is a pre-tournament meeting. They go over all the rules for the following day and at the end you draw your partner. This is probably the best way to get better at fishing, because each tournament you draw a new partner and you learn a different style of fishing each time. Now to find what division would be closest to you, go to flwoutdoors.com then go to tournament trails. It will be a drop down menu. Then you go to BFL which will be another drop down menu, and then click tournamnet schedule. After that there will be another drop down menu with states listed and click your state. That will give you the division you will be in. Since i live in oklahoma, i fish the okie division. Hope this helps, and best of luck to you Jake! If you have any other questions about this just let me know.
